Samsung may skip an update to Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 and go straight to Android 4.3, reports indicate.
Citing an unnamed insider, Temefy claims that Samsung is already working on bringing the 4.3 version of Google?s operating system to two of its biggest-selling smartphones. And rather than issue 4.2.2 in the meantime, the phone-maker wait until November or December and push out the fresher software.
Earlier rumblings from Samsung suggested that 4.2.2 was due for both phones this month, having missed the June due-date that some tech-heads had mooted.
No reason is given for the rumoured change of heart on Samsung?s part. However, one plausible explanation is that its taking longer than expected to get its highly customised Nature UX interface and proprietary apps to play nice with Android 4.2.2.
The report also claims that Samsung will be updating the Note 2 and 3, as well as the Galaxy S3 and S4 to the as-yet-unannounced Key Lime Pie version of Android.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, there?s no mention of the ageing Galaxy S2, which Samsung has supported creditably thus far.
More formally referred to as Android 5.0, the next major new edition of the OS is expected to debut the Google Babble unified messaging service and introduce profiles so that you can limit your smartphone?s activity and by limiting tasks you deem inessential.
